Amelia Peters Greenway Presidential Fellow

Amelia Peters is a student at Bucknell University in the Class of 2027. Although a student in the Freeman College of Management, she wanted to get involved in an environmental project.

The Bucknell Greenway Project will be displayed on a path that runs around campus. Along the pathway, there will be detailed signs about Bucknell’s role in the Civil War, Underground Railroad sites, a variety of gardens, and more. Due to unprecedented weather and slight delays, the project’s opening will be pushed back to mid-March of 2024.

Amelia is primarily working with with the tech department and Professor Intindola. She claims the goal of the project is to “protect the native environment destroyed by developments or pollution.” When asked what her favorite part of the project was, Amelia said: “I think I am most interested in the gardens and the tree planting.”

Amelia has also been involved with environmental sustainability practices outside of this project. She does not eat red meat, cuts down her plastic use, and shops at secondary companies who support sustainability. She wants to contribute directly to the environment, not just advocate for it.

Student support and outside awareness is what the Greenway Project needs to successfully reach its goal. Amelia hopes to get clubs like Greek Life involved with maintaining the gardens. She encourages her fellow Bucknellians to spread awareness for the Greenway Project.
